They are located in your Home/Library/Preferences folder and named thus: com.apple.help.plist com.apple.helpui.plist com.apple.helpviewer.plist Trash all three, then reopen help viewer. After a brief pause, it will most likely work the way it should (which is to say slow, but much better).
