It seems people are selling more or less sturdy 3.5" Al IEEE 1394/USB 2.0
cases for about $100. A 160 GByte 3.5" IDE Maxtor is about $200.

The only minus is that you can't run it off iBook's Firewire, but won't 
the runtime be greatly reduced by that so that you'd need to run tethered, 
anyway?
