Ibook/LW 16/600/ Airport?

Scored an apple LW 16/600 from ebay and am trying to get it to work with my
iBooks and airport.

I've tried the following in OSX 10.2 to no avail.

Opened print center and 'installled' a new printer at the IP address that
printed out on the test sheet.

Plugged in transciever/ethernet cable from printer into original airport
ethernet port.

Set up airport via AP utility to bridge ethernet networks - all w/o success.
Tried to hook up to iBooks ethernet = also w/o success?

Could it be a bad tansciever? Or am I missing some magic setting?
