I have had similar problems with my Wallstreet G3 with 56k modem and 
now my tiBook. It is due to the poor quality telephone connection. The 
modem syncs at the faster speed initially but can't maintain it due to 
the error rate.

Of course, I live in the countryside amongst farmers running electric 
fences beneath the copper phone lines, so your experience may vary.

p.s. I'm on the iBook list because I have been given an 600MHz iBook 
with a dead screen, would anybody know a cheap mail vendor source for 
the vga adapter? It will work with an external monitor.
