It is due to the poor quality telephone connection. The modem syncs at the faster speed initially but can't maintain it due to the error rate. Of course, I live in the countryside amongst farmers running electric fences beneath the copper phone lines, so your experience may vary. regards Bryan p.s. I'm on the iBook list because I have been given an 600MHz iBook with a dead screen, would anybody know a cheap mail vendor source for the vga adapter? It will work with an external monitor.
