Are you using System X? The black screen stays black for an unpleasant 
length of time which in the past has caused me to press the start 
button again and again and again....eventually I pressed if for 10+ 
seconds to get the book to shut down, etc.

Pressing the start button once and then keeping my hands in my pockets 
solved the problem.
