OT: Safari trouble

Dear Folks;

Just downloaded the latest Safari.  Now Safari won't work at all, even 
the old one.  When I put the icon in the dock, it won't activate.  When 
I try to open from Applications, it appears to open, but nothing 
happens.

What gives? any clues?
