Powerbook won't boot up

My daughter has an original Titanium Powerbook 15" and suddenly, it just
seems dead. She figures the battery's probably not much good anymore since
it's about 3 - 4 years old, but it won't even start with the adapter plugged
in. She thinks it might be because she had the battery out, and tried to
boot up with a photo cd in the tray, and maybe it tried to boot from the CD,
gave up, and just went and died. Any thoughts, tips, desperation attempts,
etc?
