[P1] Powerbook won't boot up

By "dead," do you mean it no longer even *tries* to boot at all, either 
from the hard drive or from a CD in the tray?

If that's not the case, I'd try booting from one of the CDs that should 
have been included with the computer. From there, you may be able to 
either repair the drive, or reinstall software.

If that is the case, if it doesn't even try to boot, check to make sure 
there's not a fault in the power cable. (You might be able to see a 
short in the cord.) That might also be the reason the batteries are 
dead.
