Tmobile hotspot

Anyone using this service ??? Is it any good ? Fast ? Has firewall
restrictions ??? 

I am considering using it for a one month trip to the west coast ... 40$ (if
they let me sign up :)

Is that a good idea or are there so many free hotspots around that this
would appear to be foolish ?

My biggest problem is that I do not even drink coffee and try to avoid
mcdonalds as much as possible (evil temptation)
