There may be numerous reports of battery issues, but that still doesn't give a complete picture of the extent of the problem (which may not be as widespread as it appears), or why it happens. From what I understand, the software updates don't alter anything in the battery itself; that doesn't mean there isn't a problem, just that it isn't clear that it's a problem with the battery.
