External Burner

I have an external LaCie burner.  I can't get it to work with my 
'books, and one of them doesn't have an internal burner, so I need it 
to work.  I can't even see it to burn to...can anyone give me any 
hints?  I have written LaCie about it, but there must be a way to make 
it see it.  I am not trying to use my Toast Titatinum on it, just the 
software which came with it which is a Toast limited program.  But, 
when I use OSX, it just won't burn at all.  In fact, it doesn't see it 
at all.

Any help out there?
