I believe there are internet sites that both send and receive faxes.

I googled "internet fax" using safari and found more than 11 pages of 
info.

Here's a faq page: <http://www.savetz.com/fax/>. There seems to be a 
bit of commercialism in this page...

Note that the costs range from 7 cents a page, which is cheap 
considering that a long distance fax in the US can cost 75 cents or so. 
One service even emails your faxes to you.
