iBook sleep usage

Hi all,

I feel a little newbie (well, I am to the laptop world anyway :-) to 
ask this question :

- Do you shutdown your iBook often or only when moving it and putting 
it to sleep for all other occasions ?

- How does sleep affects the battery ? While on battery, would it be 
better to shutdown the iBook ?

My previous G3 was making airplane-class noise, even while sleeping, 
but my new iBook G4 makes so little noise I always think it's not 
powered on :-) I found out how easy it is to put to sleep my iBook 
(close it !)... would it be a good strategy to shutdown it only when 
moving it to another place ?
