I've been shocked by the mouse track pad on my ibook 800mhz and assumed it's static. If this only occured when plugged in it could be because it's earthed. To test this, you could try touching other nearby large metal objects. Or, immediately after being shocked, try touching the same part again - if you don't get another shock, I think you can reasonably conclude that it's static. One other reason for this conclusion: I wouldn't expect any voltages inside the computer to be large enough to shock you. I wouldn't think static would damage the ibook - it *should* be protected against such discharges...
