Why not? Maybe I'm just lucky but with all 6 or so fresh OS X installs fof
various flavors I have done, the user created after booting the first time
after install is always uid 501. If you use the same short name both
times, it would seem to me that everything should be in sync.

I'll agree that once you start adding multiple users, it gets tricky
though...
