strange iBook 800 video problem

Folks

Has anyone seen this before ?

iBook 800.

Works perfectly as far as I can determine on OS X.

But on OS 9, as the machine boots the display changes from a full screen display to a small centralised display surrounded by a black border.

I have changed the screen and the problem occurs without a hard drive in if I boot from a CD.

Any thoughts ?
