[iBook] Need a workaround for fried USB ports

how sure are you that the USB ports are _dead_? It _could_ be a  
software problem that's buggered your USB.. worth checking, I reckon.

Perhaps it might be worth downloading a bootable Linux CD (you pop in  
the cd, hold <opt> while booting {if my memory is correct} and linux  
will run off it, without needing to write anything to your HD). plug  
in a USB mouse, and test it out..

don't get too hopeful - but I can't see how plugging in a numeric  
keypad could kill it - unless there was something gravely wrong with  
it..
