Thank you, Matt. It was my understanding that some external hard drives would not be recognized by firewire after I upgraded, and this did occur after I upgraded to 10.2.8. I don't have another firewire device currently to try; so it may be just the external drive that won't work with the update. When I upgraded from 10.1 that came with the iBook, to purchased Jaguar, the CD-RW quit working. I do need to keep this iBook for awhile, and it's important to my work (college prof), so my plan is to at least upgrade memory and try another external drive. The CD-RW is a pain but I'll have one at my office. Basically I need a really prolific word processor, but would like to retain the other features I paid for if you have any other ideas as to what may be wrong. jb

>From: Matt <chester_the_lp_dork at yahoo.com>
>Reply-To: "A place to discuss Apple's iBook computers." <ibook at listserver.themacintoshguy.com>
>To: "A place to discuss Apple's iBook computers." <ibook at listserver.themacintoshguy.com>
>Subject: Re: [iBook] why 9?
>Date: Thu, 7 Jul 2005 15:05:25 -0700 (PDT)
>
>Weather or not you need to run classic depends on if
>you have apps. that will only run in classic mode.
