I tried to send a document through our campus email system as an
attachment and it bounced it. We have a campus site license for
Norton Anti-virus and I ran it and found about a dozen Word documents
infected with the same virus that the email system had detected. I've
heard from Windows people that Norton isn't the best program for
updating their virii profiles often enough, but then, I'm not a
Windows person and these MS Word macro viruses have been around for
quite awhile. I don't tend to worry about the killer viruses that
infect the Windows world, although they are a plague on our campus.
Our IT people on occasion have, literally, spent night and day
running patches to try and get ahead of some of these. I think the
people who create and disseminate these things should be caught,
tried, convicted and deprived of computer access for the rest of
their lives (I've thought much worse thoughts about them, but then,
I'm trying to practice non-violence.).
