[iBook] Changing hard drive query

Hi!

I'm wondering if I use Carbon Copy Cloner or Retrospect, and then 
back-up my hard drive to a 2.5" external, then swap and install the 
external drive into my ibook, will the ibook then read the drive and 
boot-up?

Any ideas?
