[iBook] Troubled iBook

Larry, dumb question: Since I'm the only user but have a separate ID ("Fred Stevens") under Mac HD -> Users -> Fred Stevens (as opposed to "Users -> Shared", how would I boot to single user mode (as opposed to Shared [or "Computer]?). Wondered about this when I first obtained my iBook in 2003 since the installation process forced me to enter a username and password which made me a combined user and administrator, albeit with separate identities; my second installation last month forced me to do the same thing, so I still have separate libraries, fonts, and several other things for Computer and User Fred Stevens. There was no way I could get to Disk First Aid (or anything else on my HD) while suffering my boot-up, then turn-off problem. My hardware check CD convinced me it wasn't a hard drive problem; this was reinforced by the Apple Tech's remote troubleshooting procedures. Anyway, I'm happy it cost me only 50 bucks and a system reinstall rather than having to purchase a new HD or logic board or whatever.

Tnx,
Fred

The hardware test CD that came with my computer found no problems. Finally one day, it would boot up only to the start of the blue screen, then shut itself off. DiskWarrior wouldn't work; the only thing that worked was the hardware test CD which found no problems.
