As I said, this depends on how you have 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder' set in the Advanced section of iTunes Preferences. Personally I prefer to let iTunes do all the dirty work for me when it comes to file organisation. I download tracks to a temporary folder, keep both advanced options checked in iTunes, and delete my originals once I've added the music files to the iTunes Library. Like you, I make a habit of tidying up questionable ID3 tags, and leave it to iTunes to look after the housekeeping. (Always remember that handy Command-R shortcut I mentioned. This is the most direct way to determine the location of music files used by iTunes.) You shouldn't need to duplicate the effort you've already gone through with your tag editing, so I'd leave things as they are. If you're worried about space filling up on your drive, you should be safe deleting the originals (unless, of course, these are AIFFs which you've converted to a compressed format and you want to retain high-quality originals).
