Alternative mice

I just ordered a Bluetake BT400 for my G5.  I will report back on it 
after I have used it a bit.  I also ordered the Apple Bluetooth 
keyboard.  Is there an easy way to set up shortcut keystrokes to launch 
applications ( like pushing the configurable buttons on my Logitech 
keyboard)?
