[G4] How to tell if DVD has been burned?

I know this is late, but I'll answer anyway.

You can usually discern a difference in the reflectivity of the surface on the "business" side of the disc. You'll see a band that's either lighter or darker. I *think* the cd burns from the center out, but I don't remember for sure.
