[MacDV] SONY camcorder - is it broken?

SONY dcr pc9 ntsc

- two days ago I was able to simply plug in a FireWire cable from my
SONY dcr pc9 ntsc camcorder into my Mac (10.3.5) - and was able to record
video and audio into either iMovie or final cut pro hd 4.5

then - last night - I hooked FireWire up again to do more - and now there
is no video or audio coming into the computer ... ( the final cut pro video
settings are the same as they were also)

- both applications play - stop buttons do control the camera as expected.
- when I hook in my other camera (XL1) - it does work with audio and video
- I even hit the reset switch on the sony camera - to no avail

Question: so - is it broken? Is the FireWire video output somehow damaged on
the camera? Is there any way to reset/do something to fix this?

- I am a very cautious person - and when I unhook FireWire cables - I will
always power-down the camera first... And usually power down the computer
also ( Is it necessary to power down the computer?)

If by some chance - the FireWire cable was pulled out accidentally while
the camera was running - could this conceivably damage the unit?

- If in fact it is damaged - Does anybody have any idea how much it would
cost to get this fixed?
