[MacDV] iMovie - Exporting to Camera

Imovie - SONY dcr pc9 ntsc camcorder

 I set up some clips in the Time line of imovie - and I set the camera in
VTR mode and had a  recordable tape ready to go - then I said export to
camera...

-  and it started doing something for a second or two - and then it said it
lost the connection to the camera

-  I tried this a few times and got the same result each time...

- so - what do I need to do to get it to export to camera?
