Apple simply decided that its users base was going to be mostly Mac people at the beginning hence not so many Unix/Linux switchers. Most Unix stuff is not on OS X installer disk, rather on the Developers Tools (free download). This is the reason why Unix users on OS X do install right away the Developer Tools. After that you end up with most - if not all - the common Unix tools, libs, and bin. You have tcsh, sh, csh, and bash (which I am using now). gcc 2.92.5 and 3.1 (default), cvs, etc etc And - of course - Fink could not work if you do not have Developers Tools installed (compilers, libraries, etc) Cheers M.
