Installing panther on a partition

This may be a simple question, however, it=B9s better safe than sorry.

I am currently running jaguar on one of four partitions that I have on my
60GB HD. If I decide to upgrade to panther, would it effect any of my other
partitions. I have critical data on the other partitions that I am afraid t=
o
lose. The only back I can do at the moment is using my external 30 GB HD, i=
n
which is not enough with all the data I have on my other partitions.



Any feedback would be appreciated.
