I reported that as a bug to Apple in November.  There are a number of 
related things to this; the Preview pane in the Info window works fine. 
  If you click on an item in a different column view window, it will 
likely select several items around the item you clicked on as well.  As 
you noted, in icon view, the selection marquee is offset by a few 
hundred pixels.  List view is pretty much unaffected, except for a 
small drawing glitch that doesn't affect functionality.  Also, dragging 
the scroll bars in the window the movie is playing in causes erratic 
behavior as well.
Apple reviewed my bug report, and notified me that it was a duplicate, 
so they are aware of the problem, and it will get fixed.  However, it's 
not a massive bug, so it might take another update or two before we get 
that fix.
