Although sometimes SMTP providers will provide an alternate port (such 
as 587 or 2525) I am not sure if Apple does this.  However, you _can_ 
use SMTP over SSL, which is port 465, by choosing the SSL option in the 
"Server Settings..." popup of the SMTP server.  That should do the 
trick for you, as well as encrypt your outgoing mail connection to the 
.Mac server(s).
