Chris - I just encoded a 973Mb TV program from EyeTV using the H.264  
codec, and it was completed in about 50 minutes,and produced a 223 Mb  
file.
Quite impressive.  All done on my 125 Al-book.

That seems to be the way to go in future, for me.
