Interestingly, KisMAC has a beta out with passive support for Airport  
Extreme.
I have no idea why there is no information or any kind of discussion  
on the KisMAC web site as to these betas.

This beta - R75 - was released 20050825

One problem with the beta is that the driver doesn't always load or  
unload correctly.

I've heard a report that moving /System/Library/Extensions/ 
AppleAirport2.kext on boot will make KisMAC's replacement driver load  
correctly. You'd have to move it back to get your card to work  
normally again, though. I've heard that some people don't have that  
problem... I didn't.

Of course, I expect support to be much better for a real release...  
but this means that it's possible and being worked on!
