Retrospect is going to be your best bet.  As has been mentioned get 
some external firewire drives, and make sure you keep a copy of your 
data off-site.  If you can afford it I'd really recommend looking 
into a tape drive for your backups, but I suspect it would cost more 
than your budget.  You can buy a *LOT* of Firewire HD's for the cost 
of one tapedrive (or for the cost of a 2-4 tapes).
