Back in classic the AppleShare Chooser plugin used to offer a check box for "if checked the item will be automatically opened at startup". There is probably something similar in OS neXt. The items are disks, not servers. It's possible that machine B is trying to mount and open a folder or two that have been left open on shutdown.

Are the dialogs displayed during startup or during login? It might be dependent on the user.
