The Pluses that I installed a fan in never failed.  Which is what I used 
to routinely do for clients.  That's why I concluded that it was a heat 
cycling problem.  (And Mac Pluses got really hot...)

Not that it makes a difference now.  However, some of the original iMacs 
had similar heat cycling problems.
