It's extremely easy to do this in "A Better Finder Rename", available 
at <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11366>
though of course that way is not as much fun as figuring out how to 
do it in Terminal.
But it would get the job done in a couple of minutes at most.
