Brother printers are very well supported for OS X, so I think you
have a config error.

1. I assume each laptop can print correctly when directly connected.
(driver installed !!)
2. Connect printer to USB port on Airport Extreme base station.
3. On laptop #1, in Printer Setup utility, delete Brother printer
(this is the direct USB one)
4. Add a new printer, but choose to search for Bonjour printer
instead of USB. You should see the printer and good to go.
5. Repeat on laptop #2.

There are some limits to Airport connected printers. You may not get
error messages like out of paper, and you may not be able to check
ink levels, etc. For those operations you will need to connect
directly to one of the laptops.
