Two quick things come to mind.

If the computers are close enough (same subnet or within airport range) you can
use the iTunes music sharing feature to allow one computer to "see" and play
music from the other.

You could use an iPod as your "external disk"  It will have it's own play lists.
 To play through the second computer plug the iPod's line-out into the computers
line-in.
