Glad to hear that you have doubled the download speed.  Something must have changed, maybe it's just self healing!!

Maybe you just need to do some house cleaning.  Have you tried Applejack or any other similar application? I haven't felt the need but others report major speed increases.  

As you may have read, I have fixed my problem after some helpful suggestions.
