[G4] drive installation problem

I just swapped out the DVD drive in my G4 (gig ethernet).
All went smoothly, no problems with the installation, had
good directions printed out to follow. 

But when I booted back up and pressed the button on the front
plate of my tower case to open the disk tray, there was no response.
I can flip that plate down, but I can't see what is supposed to be contacted
on the new drive to make it's tray slide out.
 
Anyone have any ideas? What am I missing here?
