Hi, B; While I can't answer the technical aspects of your question, I'd like to put in a recommendation for Reason. Reason is a synth/recording studio..a professional counterpart to Garage Band. GB is excellent, but Reason offers far more piano types ("Refills" as they call them) and far more customizability, so she can make it sound like she's playing at a smokey club or at Lincoln Center. I have a low end keystation which does have velocity-sensitive keys, but the keys are not weighted.
