In the UK you can pay anything from £15 to £25 or more on DVDs that cost less in the US (ie, a bigger difference than could be accounted for due to the 17.5% VAT [sales tax] in the UK). On average I've noticed that discs are £5 more expensive here than the equivalent in the US. If the price of a movie in the US is $15 then they seem to think it's ok to price the same disk at £17.99 ($27) in the UK. Almost all new releases here are priced at £20 ($30), apart from a few sure fire hits like Men in Black, LoTR etc which were £25. Greed drives them, it seems. I guess the UK is funding the cigar lighters for hollywood. Of course, they'll have to convert those pounds into dollars before using them to light up, I think it's illegal to burn UK currency.
