I have MacLink Plus for OSX (before that, for OS 8.x and 9.x) and while I don't think it cost me $80 (was more about $40 I think), it could convert virtually any Windoze format and a LOT of non-Windoze and older M$ formats (e.g. Lotus, DOS, WordStar, plus a bunch I never heard of) into Appleworks. I've used MacLink for years and have always been very satisfied with it. It also will take a file (click and drag) and tell me what type of file it is without translating it if I so desire. Also, MacLink is used by my Appleworks for automatic and directed translations; I think it's set up in the MacLink preferences. Just in case, however, I also have Office For Mac (Educators' Version). -- 3333333 de Fred
