What hardware do you need to buy? The iBooks come with a little (4" or so) cable with a weird plug on one end & a VGA connector on the other. The weird plug goes into the iBook (on my 900MHz G3, it's between the USB port and the headphone jack), and the VGA connector goes to the projector (or external monitor). If your friend didn't give you the cable, you can probably get one from Apple or eBay or something. Not all video projectors are created equal. I've hooked my iBook up to several. All of them cause a screen resize, which you need to fix using System Preferences, and some of them won't let you go beyond 800x600. If you can, try hooking everything up before the presentation so you can verify that it's going to work in the first place, and so you can quickly get the resolution set properly once hooked up.
